Canine Good Citizen Preparation Course

This 6-week course, including the opportunity to test on week 6, will focus on the 10 required items included in the American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen Test.

• Continue your training journey with your dog by strengthening your training skills
• Small group classes allow for individualized attention and personalized criteria to each student
• Opportunity to take Canine Good Citizen Test at the end of course, under the evaluation of CGC certified instructor
• Dogs must be over 5 months to participate
• Proof of up-to-date Rabies, Bordetella, and DHPP/DA2PP vaccines are required to participate

If you and your dog are new to School For The Dogs, welcome! In order to enroll into the Canine Good Citizen Preparation Course, you’ll need to meet the following prerequisites:

+ Trainer Approval: If you are an existing client, please email your current trainer for approval. If you are a new client, please email info@schoolforthedogs.com with the subject line “Trainer Approval Needed” to enroll in a Video Session (30 mins) for $90.

+ Prep School & Grad School strongly recommended but not required.

+ Dog should not have significant behavior issues, or have trouble focusing when working in an environment with other dogs or people

Additional Requirements

In order to take this advanced class, teams must be able to fulfill the requirements listed below prior to starting:

1. Offer mat relaxation for a 1 minute duration without a treat
2. Sit politely when human or dog approaches
3. Give eye contact on verbal cue
4. Offer touch (and/or recall cue) from 10 ft away
5. Sit for 20 seconds on cue
6. Down for 20 seconds on cue
7. Maintain a sit or a down while guardian increases distance
8. Offer “polite behavior” at doorways
9. Execute loose leash walking with guardian for 10 paces and a u-turn without a treat.
10. Focus on handler and remain stationed on mat when needed, in a group class setting with other dogs and people, with no visual barriers (dog will remain on leash).
